BANK CLERKS AND THEIR "SCREWS."

A champion for the Bank clerks has at length arisen in the person of Mr Sperrett, of Wellington, who drew attention at the annual meeting of the Bank of New Zealand in the latter city to the inadequacy of the salaries paid to these men. It was surely time. The Bank clerk has to dress as if he were worth say a Vthousand a year, when, as a 'matter of fact, he only receives I (at all events from the 8.N,Z.) £150 per annum, at the end of six years ! . The manager of the Bank in question, Mr H. Beauchamp, considers the staff receives " generous treatment," a matter regarding which the staff probably entertains" a different opinion, especially in view of the fact that this Bank made a nett profit last year of upwards of £300,000.
