CITIZENS' BALL
TO RETURNED SOLDIERS
The meeting convened for Monday evening last, to discussarrangements for a Citizens' Ball to returned soldiers, was well attended. Mr A. J. Garry, one of the convenors, was voted to the chair.
It was decided that a ball be held in Lyric Theatre, to which all returned soldiers belonging to Helensville, Parakai, Parkhurst, andTePua be invited to attend. Invitations, enclosing complimentary double tickets, will be forwarded to such returned men. It was resolved that the da|e of the Ball be finally decided upon at the next committee meeting. On the proposal of Mr Stewart, seconded by Mr Strange, the following prices of admission were fixed .—Gentlemen 15/-, ladies 12/6; double ticket 21/-, extra lady 10/6; onlookers 2/6, supper tickets 5/-. The following committee were sleeted, with power to add to their number : —Mesdames N. W. Rimmer, Jas. Stewart, J. A. Wilson, Contts, West; Messrs N. W. Rimmer, Jas. Stewart, A. J. Hill, H. Aitkenhe,ad, .J. A. Wilson, J. Constable, W. Coutts, F. W. Strange, T. D. Johnsoji, H. Bradly, J. L. Bradly, J. McLeod, W. F. F. Raisher. Chairman of Committee, Mr N. W. Rimmer. Messrs Garry and J. C. Rimmer were' elected joint secretaries, and Mr A. J. Hill was appointed treasurer.
It was decided that tenders be called for supplying o£ supper. The following were appointed a supper committee: Mesdames Stewart, Jas. Stewart, Coutts, J. A. Wilson, N. W. Rlmmer; Messrs A. J. Hill, J. Stewart, and F. W. Strange. A copy of the proposed menu is to be prepared and submitted at the next meet-^ ing of the committee, w'tfioi^willbe held at the Town Board office! on Monday next, July 14th, at 8 p.m. It was decided to leave the scheme of decorations in the hands of the ladies. The printing of soldiers' invitations, tickets, etc., was left in the hands of the secretaries, and it was further decided that I printing be done locally. In addition to advertising locally, it was arranged that an advt. be j screened at the local picture i shows. It was decided to engage Meredith's orchestra, if available. If not, matter be left to the chairman and secretaries to secure some other appropriate orchestra. Invitations are to be forwarded j to Major and Mrs Coates, and to | Mr and Mrs C. J. Parr. J The following were appointed Ms.C.: Messrs J. B'radly, H. Bradly, J. Constable/ W. Coutts, F. W. Strange, and J. Bell. Tickets may be obtained from any member of the committee. Any surplus that may be over from the function is to be donated to the Memorial Fund, j
