TOY BALLOONS.

W. Cox wrote to the Herald the other day to suggest that we should all spend our spare time of evenings in making " illuminating balloons, to be released at a given time, say 8 o'clock on Peace Night." The adoption of this notion W. Cox considers would " do honour to our gallant airmen and at the same time make a spectacular display." "Think," adds this correspondent, rapturously, "what a sight a few hundred coloured balloons would make ! It would also lend a personal interest as each balloon could carry a message of personal thanksgiving to the skies, where so many brave deeds have been done." I haven't a notion as to the identity of W, Cox, but judging by his letter I should say he is fairly entitled to write C.R.A.N.K. after his hame. Who is to read the messages of personal thanksgiving when they reach the skies? —the' Man in the Moon ?
