A SET OF FURS.
The story goes that a lady recently called at her drapers, whose house of business is less than the proverbial 100 miles from Queen Street, and asked to be shown some furs. A set was shown to her, and she pronounced them " lovely." The price was lovely, too—£Bo. This was more than the lady wanted to give, so she said to the manager, whom she knew, "look here, I will pay you £40 on account, and get my husband to call and see these furs. He is sure to buy them for me. You must tell him the price is £40, but you mustn't say a word, of course about the £40 you have had from me." The manager smiled discreetly, and said it would be "alright." The lady told her husband about the beautiful furs
—" such a bargain at £40" — and he said he would have a look at them. When he returned home in the evening he told his wife the furs had been sold. She couldn't understand this, at first. But she soon did. A day or two later she met a lady she knew-^-and whom her husband knew—wearing that identical set of furs !
