CHILDREN AND PICTURE SHOWS.

A terrible to-do about the demoralising effect of certain pictures on the juvenile mind. The Minister for Education is almost in tears about it. The Hon. G. W. Russell takes a wiser view of the matter. It was never proposed, he says, to reduce the standard of films to the level of school children, and he asks (in effect) why parents allow their children to see pictures which it is better they should not see. Why indeed? . Surely the responsibility in this matter rests with the parents ? Why not have special programmes for children on certain days of the week ? Why should not popular fairy-stories and pantomines be screened for the benefit of children ? Sooner or later picture-showmen will wake up to the possibilities that lie in this direction, and find, if I am not mistaken, that " there's money in it."
