HELENS VILLE PREPARATIONS. 4

At a public meeting, held in Helensville on Thursday, May 1, Mr James Stewart (Chairman Helensville Town Board) presiding, it was decided to fall into line with the Government proposal* for Peace Celebrations, and provisional arrangements were made as follows :— For the first day, Sunday, arrangements to hold a united service in the afternoon were left in the hands of the local Clergy. The second day, Monday, has so far been left open, as it is thought that a number of people will be visiting the city. A committee has been set up to arrange for bonfires throughout the district for Monday evening, the lighting of which at 8 o'clock to link up with other districts. Where necessary, fireworks, will be supplied. In the evening all returned soldiers will also be entertained. On Tuesday, the third day, " Children's Day," a .procession will leave the Helensville station at 10 a.m., for the Hot Springs Grounds. Foul* committees have been set up to carry but arrangements : — A Decoration Committee, who will, it is suggested, erect two "arches, one at the entrance to Helensville and the other at the entrance to the Springs, and who will suitably arrange for bunting and the decoration of the route ; a Procession Committee, which will have charge of the music and the transporting of the children; an Entertainment Committee, which will have charge of the provisions, etc., and other things neoessary for the feeding of the children and all others present; a Sports Committee, which will have charge of the sports generally. Returned soldiers and children from all out-lying districts will be carried to Helensville by the Railway Department free. Arrangements are also being made with the Railway Department to . alter the arrival and departure of trains from Helensville to enable people in the out-lying districts to participate. Any persons in the outlying districts from Helensville who s. White. Procession Committee —Messrs Drinnan, Garry, W. Allen, Hunt, Ross, Walters, Raisher. Bonfire Committee—Messrs J. Rimmer, McCardle, Sproston, J. McLeod, W. W. L. Bradly, West, Johnson. Entertainment Committee. — Messrs A. Bishop, Raisher, J. G. Rimmer, Oswald, Carter, Roberts,. J. Constable, Wilson. Aitkenhead. Sports Committee— Messrs C. Sandin, Screaton, Thompson, Graham, Spinley, Bishop, Wallace, W. Coutts, Jas. McLeod. Finance Committee—Messrs J. Stewart, H. Aitkenhead, H. White, J. A v WiLson, A. Bishop, . bpinley, Screaton, Dowling, Parkes, Raisher, J. McLeod. A Ladies' Committee is in course of formation, the members of which, will join other committees where necessary. The different committees will meet early to arrange their order of business and report to the Finance Committee the amount of monies wanted to complettsfc^ their arrangements.
