HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD.
MONDAY, APRIL 14TH. .PRESENT Comrs. J. Stewart (chairman), Jas. MoLeod, H. Aitkenhead, W. Coutts, C. West, H. Thompson, T. D. Johnson, and the clerk (Mr W. F. Raisher). MINUTES Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Outward correspondence was confirmed. Letter from Mr H. Graham re lighting lamps at his shop was also received. HOSE TESTING On the motion ofCrMcLeod, seconded by Cr West, it was resolved —That the Chairman arrange with the Captain of the Fire Brigade to give a demonstration during the day to test the state of the hose. THE PROPOSED PARK " A letter was received from Mr John P. Hand offering a piece of land for sale for a public park. Letter to be handed to local press for publication.
[The above-mentioned letter is ai follows: " Chairman Helens- " ville Town Board —Dear Sir — " In answer to your advt. which " appeared in the ECHO of 20th " March, re land for a park, I " have about 15 to 20 acres of " native bush (with stoney stream "running through) for sale, at " £30 per acre. It is the only " bush for miles around, and has "been reserved for years for a " park, and would be an ideal " spot, with the road to th« " Helensville Dam as a frontage. '" Inspection is invited, (signed) " John Patrick Hand."] RUBBISH TIP It was decided to instruct Hunter Bros, to cover old rubbish tip at once. REPORT ADOPTED Report from Water and Drainage Committee was adopted. BOUDARIES Proposed by Cr West, seconded by the Chairman—That Mr H. M. Wilson be asked to define the boundaries around the Library, and that the ground be put in order and fenced. IMPROVEMENTS Cr West proposed and Cr Thompson seconded—That the Roads Committee take in hand the beautifying of the Library surroundings, and the piece of land between Miss Loudon's shop and Awaroa Bridge. It was suggested that ornamental trees be planted and seats procured. FOOTPATH FORMATION On the motion of Cr Aitkenhead, seconded by Cr Johnson, it was agreed to continue the filling and making of the footpath as far as the garage on Mill Road as soon as opportunity offers. STORAGE TANK ' Proposed by Cr Johnson and seconded by Cr Coutts—That Mr H. M. Wilson be asked to give estimate of cost of a storage tank for water to hold a week's supply within the town area. MATERIAL FOR REPAIRS It was decided to order 294 yds of scoria and 6 trucks of metal for urgent work. SHORTAGE OF J.'sP. On the motion of Cr Aitkenhead, seconded by Cr Coutts, it was resolved—That the Clerk write to the Minister for Justice pointing out the shortage of Justices of the Peace in the lown District, owing to two having died recently and other causes, and asking him to take steps to relieve the situation. PEACE MEMORIAL It was decided to spend no public money on Peace Celebrations, but to discuss the erection ot a permanent memorial to fallen soldiers and others at next meeting:. ELECTRIC LIGHTING SCHEME Mr Walker's report on electric lighting was further con S idere4. Ibe Chairman proposed and'Cr West seconded—That-a meeting of ratepayers be called for Monday, 12th May, at 8 p.m., to consider the scheme.
