CHURCH MATTERS.

On Tuesday, April Bth, the Bishop, Dr. Averill, visited Helens vil I o and Kaukapakapa. The object of his visit was, firstly to dedicate the Church at Kaukapakapa, which he did at 11 a.m. Visitors attended from Helensville and surrounding districts, and the Church was full, about 150 people being present. The musical portion of the service was under the direction of the organist and choirmaster of the Parish Church. After the wardens had requested the Bishop to dedicate the Church to Saint Clement, and the Bishop agreeing to do so, he then entered the Church, proceeding with the Vicar to the altar. The choir and congregation meanwhile 6inging the special psalm 122: "I was glad when they said unto me we will go into the house of the LjOrd." After the dedication morning prayer was said by the Vicar. The Bishop preached an eloquent sermon, impressing upon the congregation to complete the Church as a memorial to those who had fallen in the war, also as a thanksgiving to Almighty God for peace. The ladies of Kaukapakapa provided luncheon in a house kindly lent by Mrs B. Drinnan.

In the evening at 7.30 p.m., the Bishop conducted a Confirmation Service in the Parish Church at Helensville, when about 16 candidates were confirmed. The Bishop gave two very eloquent addresses, and there was a large congregation present.

After the service a meeting ot the parishioners was held, the Bishop presiding. The Vicar spoke asking the parishioners for their hearty co-operation iv getting the Church completed, and the Bishop, speaking in support of the mqvement, asked the congregation to complete the Church as a memorial to tho.se fallen in the war, those returning, and as a peace offering.

A special meeting was called to take place in the Church on Monday, April 14th, a report of which will he in our aext issue. IJowever, we understand, that a good sum luis already been promised, and it is the intention of the Vestry ■■'> &■'>■ iT->.ht on with the work.
