THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE" HELENSVILLE, THURSDAY, Jan. 30, 1919 HELENSVILLE SHOW.

GOOD ENTRIES

RECORD ATTENDANCE.

FINE weather prevailed yesterday for the above annual event, and in consequence crowds of visitors from both North and South arrrived by the special trains. The Ponsonby Boys Brass Band, under Bandmaster Norris, played appropriate music during the day, helping to enliven the proceedings. The usual, side shows were in evidence, and seemed to be doing a brisk business. Mr Sinclair did the caterining |in his usual excellent style.

The horse and cattle sections were remarkably good and well represented. There a marked improvement in the strain of Jersey, Shorthorn and Friesian cattle, The ring events were excellent and the jumping of the best. There was a fine lot of Romney Marsh and fat sheep; but pigs were poorly represented.

The Agricultural Hall presented a most attractive appearance, and the indoor exhibits were arranged to the utmost advantage. The cookery, jams, preserves, etc., were exceptionally good and a credit to the fair sex, as also was the fancy work. Owing to the late season fruit and vegetables were not so much in evidence, and in the latter a number of entries had been wrongly classed. The horticultural exhibits made a splendid display, and in this class honours must go to Mrs Fryer-Raisher, not only for quantity, but the quality was par excellence. Following are the awards :— DAIRY PRODUCE. Farmers' Butter, without salt—Mrs Strange 1, Mrs A. Rennie 2 Farmers' Butter, with salt — Mrs Strange 1, Mrs A. Rennie 2 Bacon—J. O. Vercoe 1 Ham—J. O.
