THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE" HELENSVILLE, THURSDAY, DEC. 19, 1918
IN the ordinary course of erents a Christmas article should be gay and cheerful, but who amongst us can feel otherwise than rather mournful. Although it is very gratifying to record this yeai.-th.at the great and terrible war is at an end after over four years of strife and bloodshed. Still the fearful epidemic following up so closely, taking off thousands of those who were Jeft in the country and many returned soldiers, completely upset the long anticipated jublication when the " cease fire " was given on the battlefield. Of course, as Christians, we can but rejoice in in the glad tidings given" us on Christmas Day, and thankful to Him who gave that wonderful message : "Peace on earth, good will towards men." But though we rejoice for Peace sake and the due care of the children by making them merry and happy, we have no right to go in for feasting and useless extravagance when there are so many other outlets for spare cash in assisting those who are suffering. There's a silver lining to every cloud, and it is fervently hoped and anticipated that next year the outlook will be bright indeed.
