ENGLAND'S ELEUTHERARCHY.
(Composed by a Local Lady.)
England queen of nations, The mother of all that's fr«e. New Zealand greet thee, England, And nestle at thy knee, Hear, children of the mother,' Hear, mother of the freed.
A greeting is heard from the ocean, And a voice from the ocean land, And an arm stretches over the waters To grap the mother's hand, N And the twain are welded together In Freedom's eternal band.
From the buoyant West they greet thee, The old dam's sturdy whelp. And was ready to aid the Mother When she did need their help ; To the side of the aged Mother jThey sprang with a joyous yelp. For the brave that we have mourned for Have risen from many a grave— From the sand-swept track of the desert, And the dessert, storm-tossed wave ; And they cry with the voice of freedom, The freedom they died to save.
Hear to;the Queen of the Nations, The Mother of all the Free! Hear from the ghostly region To the'•■■region of those that be ! Give ear ,to our dead's exhortation That ever in life were free. New Zealand will ever stand to the call of the Mother ; The battles she has fought have been ours. Alert as the sleepless billows That break upon England's shore, We were there when the nations , thundered, And the Herr-gossen war-fiend roared. And the blessing of Him who died (with bowed head) That the wars of the world might cease, Upon England's eleutherarchy Grant the boon of a lasting peace, 'Tis the word of brave that for freedom Have died and obtained release.
