BREACH OF PROMISE CASE

FITZHERBERT V, GADABOUT.

This case was heard in the Star Theatre on Friday evening last, before Mr Justice Snawkins and a jury of twelve. The Hall was crowded to witness the event, and the total takings (£l7 3s) go towards the Helenaville Queen Carnival. The claim was for £1,500, but before the jury announced the verdict, plaintiff and defendant had come to a compromise, to the amusement of everyone. The judge and two counsels acquitted themselves in a rery able manner, whilst the witnesses in giving their evidence created roars of laughter. The plaintiff and defendant throughout the trial kept the audience highly amused.
