THE LATE CORPL. J. SMITH

Lance-Corporal John Charles Smith, of the Otago Machine Gun Company/ who was killed in action of September 13th., 1918, was the third son of Mr and MrsG. Smith of Helensville, formerly of Mangawai. He with his two brothers (who are still on active service) left New Zealand with the 13th Reinforcements, in his 17th year.. He was severely wounded and awarded the Military Medal during the battle pf Messines, and was killed in his 20th year. The late Lance-Corpl. Smith has five uncles (two of whom were in the Boer War) and five cousins on active servicf, also two aunts nursing at Codford.
