Don't forget to gather up everything you can spare, in the shape of bones, bottles, tins, etc., for the Red Cross. Hunter Bros., carriers, will look you up on Saturday. Every little helps.
There was a good attendance at the concert and dance held in the Star Theatre on Friday evening last, when over £8 was netted for the Red and Gold Queen. Songs were rendered by Mrs Bellini of Kaukapakapa, Mr C. White, and Mr Raisher, junr.
Mr Tucker's billiard saloon was the scene of a very interesting matoh on Thursday evening last, when the six candidates for the Queen of the Carnival tried their skill with the cue in a game of snooker. Mrs Wilson (who was in Auckland on League business) was represented by her daughter, and this young lady carried off the honours, With Miss Stewart second. A dainty supper was provided, and the total takings for the evening, amounting to over £5, go to the Helensville Queen.
The'N.Z. Expeditionary Force units in the United Kingdom were specially complimented for the amount of work done by them in connection with agriculture last year. Anticipating the food-short-age, as much land as possible was ploughed and cultivated, with the result that vegetables to the value of about £3,000 were grown and used for local messes. This year about 350 acres hare been ploughed, and it is hoped that last year's production will be trebled.
The Ideal Drapery Salvage Fire Sale is still going at full swing till to-morrow 12 noon, then will be closed down till Tuesday morning. Still a large quantity of general drapery and clothing left, slightly damaged by water, and must be cleared next week, to make room for entirely up-to-date stock.
