Slß,—May I enquire through your columns if the two men usually employed by the Town Board as surfacemen, were employed by Mr Jas. Stewart to clean the grass and weeds off the ' bank of his property, facing Commercial Road, on August 15th and 16th, or was it done while they were employed by the Town Board. If the first, I am pleased to see Mr Stewart doing such an ; improvement; but if it were done 'whilst in the Town Board employment, may 1 as a ratepayer ask who authorized them to do it, and if one of our Councillors told them to do so ? Had not that Councillor better take a walk round the town and find of some the rtal bad roads and crossings where the surfacemen would be better employed in doing necessary work and repairs, instead of working and spending the already overburdened ratepayers' money on private property.—l am, etc., Ratepayer. Helensville, 16th Aug., 1918.
