ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the above was held- on Monday, August 5, the Moderator, the Rev. W. J. Shaw, M.A., presiding. -;i^| The sessr/Oir report by Mr H. G. Mirams, Session Clerk, stated that all i matters were satisfactory, and that there was a great future ahead for the Charge. The presented by the Treasurer, Mr A. Nuttall, was very i satisfactory, {showing a credit balance Jk of £23 3s 8d and assets over liabilities |P of £734 ss. —Resolution of Loyalty— That on this the fourth anniversary of the declaration of a righteous war, this congregation of Helensville Presbyterian Church records its inflexible to continue God willing to a victorious end the struggle in maintenance of those ideals of liberty and justice which are the common cause of the Allies. This -was' moved by the Moderator and seconded by Key. R. L. Walker, and carried with the singing of the National Anthem. —Secretary's Annual Report— The year's work has been a record, both spiritually and financially. The preaching services have maintained a '- high standard at all places, especially at Woodhill. The work among the young has had its good results, and many have ? confessed their faith in Christ and been baptized. Throughout the year every preaching engagement has been kept. Communion services were inaugured nn December last arid have been con(,a jtinued quarterly ; these services have been well attended. At the last service at Woodhill there were about 16 adult communicants, aud 19 at Helensville. This Charge has to be congratulated on the number of distinguished speakers that have visited here, among them being the Revs. R. L. Walker, M.A., Jas. Pattison, Morgan Richards, J. W. Shaw M.A.,. E. O. Perry, A. A. Murray, and T. R. Jeffreys. ■^--' Sunday School.—The. Sunday School has been faithfully carried on under thesuperintendence of Mr C. P. Thomson The attendance on the whole has been good, but could be improved on. This . department is greatly in need of teachers; the school is considerably understaffed, I and the progress that should be made I cannot be accomplished until this matter JL is remedied. Mr Thomson would be | thankful to anyone who would assist ft him. in this noble work of moulding and jt framing the future of those in the I Sunday School. I Organist.—The Church desires to plac« iS. on record the services of Miss Stewart I as organist, for the conststent and X tasteful manner in which she has perI formed herjinties. kpscr-Ladies' Guilcl.—The ladies are to be B congratulated on the highly successful I' year they have had, and it is with exI treme pleasure the Church offers them 1 sincere and grateful thanks for the m . monetary assistance they have lent the [I.• Church. £66 10s 2d has been handed J, over to the Church to use [for specific B^ purposes —viz., painting and decorating c % the Church and Manse. About £40 has. * been spent for this purpose. Financial. —The balance sheet shows a very healthy of finances. """ Lectures. —The Church and district have had the privilege of having two interesting lectures' One by the R. L. Walker, " A Parson on Holiday," which brought £8 18s 3d : and one by ChaplainCaptain Shaw, "Lite on a Hospital Ship," the proceeds of which were £7 15s sd. These lectures were well appreciated, and the Committee offer their sincere thanks to these gentlemen. Obituary.—lt is with deep regret that we have to report the death of Mr J. Mclntyre, who was such a valuable member of the Committee, taking particular and keen interest in the Harvest Festivals, and was also collector of the Sustentation Fund for Parakai. - The Church desires to place on record - his useful and untiring labours in this cause. Mrs Seymour, who was a faithful servant and consiscent Christian, passed away recently. She was noted for her kindly Christian character and her many good deeds while resident in Woodhill. '. We convey to the relatives of Mr " Mclntyre and Mrs Seymour our deepest sympathy. Roll of Honour, —It is with great pleasure that we record the promotion to [| the rank of Major of Robert Milligan of^. \g\' Wainui. It is also noted that Joe Hoe I'l is now serving at the Front. J. W. Shaw has been appointed r-, v Moderator of this district, vice the Rev. |*i A. A. Murray. £•■!■ ' I. iT —Reports From Out Districts — I "1 Woodhill. —Delegate R. Hoe stated \-\ that this had been a very satisfactory |-1 year. The finances were in a healthy eJ . |;. state, the collections were larger, and the work in the district very successful. £■;&. Mr Hodson's services were very highly I; if appreciated. $'■■£ Kaukapakapa. — Delegate C. Jones h'\,-. stated that the outlook was bright, and £;■'.-■■!■ they had had a very good year. The f rt' Church had been re-roofed, painted, and
renovated. There was a better tone both spiritually and financially. Mr Jones" commended the labours of Mr Hodson who had won the esteem and love of the Kaukapakapa people. Parakai.—Delegate Aitkenhead stated that the services were good on the average, and everything at Parakai was satisfactory, particularly the work of the Minister, whose services were always warmly welcomed, and whose kindly visits were always esteemed. Wainui.—ln the absence of Mr Milligan it was reported that the effort at Wainui was appreciated, services had been held once a month, and were well attended, and those concerned in the Church at Wainui felt deeply indebted to Mr Hodson for re-opening the services in this district. —Induction of Elders— The Moderator then inducted to the office of Elder, M,r C. P. Thomson of Helensville, and Mr H. Flay of Kaukapakapa. —Election of Committee— Managers Committee—Mesdames Jas. Stewart and J. A. Wilson, Messrs H. Aitkenhead, L. L. Bailey, A. Callow,. A. Nuttall, and —. Williamson. Auditor—Mr W. J. F. Dear. —Appointment of Minister— The Moderator then notified the meeting that Helensville had been constituted a Sanction. Charge, and recommended that the congregation take steps to call an ordained Minister. This was agreed to. The Session Clerk, Mr Mirama, stated that he had promises of over £100 in hand towards the engagement of a Minister —Address— The Rev. R. L. Walker; M.A., then addressed the meeting, and congratulated the Charge on the successful and prosperous year, and urged upon the congregation the necessity of " keening on going." *■ —Votes of Thanks— A vote of thanks to the Moderator and the Rev. R. L. Walker, and to the ladies for their usual kindness in providing a dainty supper, brought another successful and happy year to^a close.
