A social was held in the Ahuroa Hall on Friday, June 28, in honour of Private P. H. Marks, who volunteered for service and is now on final leave. Although the weather was very bad quite a number of friends came to bid him farewell. Songs were contributed by Misses Paul and E. F. Marks, also by Messrs Athol Jenkins, T. Geraghty, Geoffrey Flynn, T. Russek, and Private -Marks, and several recitations by Messrs Geraghty and Quinn. During the evening Mr W. Sanderson, in -a few well chosen words, presented Private Marks with a handsome illuminated wristlet watch suitably inscribed. Miss Sanderson then placed it upon his wrist, after which three cheers were called for Private Marks, also for his parents. Private Marks suitably replied, followed by the singing'of " He's a jolly good Fellow.",
A sumptuous supper: was provided at midnight, and dancing was continued until the small hours of morning, the dance music being supplied by Mrs Marks of Tahekeroa and Mr Sanderson senr. of A.huroa.
