MARKET REPORT.
MESSRS J. J. Jones, Auctioneers, City Market, Auckland, report as follows : —
This week has been a record for the poultry market, we handled a record number for the Auckland market. We sold double the quantity advertised, and competition right throughout was keen. All the leading breeds were represented, and were well satisfied with rates ruling. For killable birds of all classes good competition was experienced. As predicted in our previous report the market is firming. The quotations given are only for killable birds. The pure-bred and prize birds are quoted separate. Kumeras and fruit lower. The grain market is firm. We quote : POULTRY (4480 penned.) Hens, prime killable 3s 6d to 4s 6d, good 3s 3d to 3s 6d, ordinary 2s 8d to 3s ; roosters, prime 3s lid to 6s ; ducks, 4s to 5s 4d ; turkeys, gobblers 7s 6d to 12s 3d, hens 4s 9d to 7s 3d; geese, 5s to Bs. Prize and Pure-bred Poultry.— Pullets, 4s to 8s sd, all breeds ; roosters, 5s 9d to 14s 9d ; ducks, 6s to 7s 9d, A line of 250 white Leghorn pullets realised 6s 4d. DAIRY PRODUCE ' Butter, Is to Is 2d; eggs, 2s 4d to2s7d; cheese, lid to llj^d; sides, Is l^d; hams Is 2d. FARM PRODUCE ' Potatoes, Southern £9 to £10 10s, Melbourne £10 to £11 ss; onions, 16s; pumpkins, £5 to £6 ; swedes, £4 to £4 10s; kumeras, 7s to Bs. GRAIN Maize, 6s 9d to 7s 8d; wheat, 7s 6d ; oats, 5s lid ; barley, 7s 6d and 7s; chaff, £9 15s to £12 10s.
