On Wednesday night last in the Public Hall an address was Riven by Mr Tankred Cooper on " The Organising of the Farmers of the Dominion," when the aims and objcts of the Farmers' Union were clearly put before those present. Mr Cooper in his opening remarks said that personally he had no policy to propound to them (the farmers), but in doing his part as an organiser he would make it clear to them that as farmers they were vitally interested in the welfare and prosperity of this country, hence he , would look to them to formulate one. When that policy was accepted it was the clear duty of all to help to make it a success, whilst he did not suppose all would agree in^detail. The time . had now come when individual opinion should giVe way to com- ■ munistic thought, and all work together for the common good of each. Mr Cooper cited several instances where co-operation had been a success, and pointed out that m helping themselves they also equally helped others. In closing his address, Mr Cooper made a business appeal to all present with their friends to join the local branch which he was certain they would soon establish ; when Helensville would be made the district centre immediately, including a large pro-PortwQ-of the Northern branches, and this to a certain extent would eliminate parochial interest for a freer and broader idea. As it affecfe the whole, a delegate from ' each branch would meet at stated times and discuss the remits and business brought forward from each branch and to arrive at a L n nfi J cT ion: when all wo«w h? *S ei£ by- On resuming his seat Mr Cooper was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his able and lucid address.
