MARKET REPORT.

MESSRS J! J. Jones, Auctioneers, City Market, Auckland, report as follows : —

The market this week has been good, a very large volume of business has been put through. The poultry market was heavily supplied, and for good killable birds satisfactory rates were obtained, though the market is much easier than last report for all poultry. This is an exception to the rule, as in other years the market generally firms considerably. We consider this is just a, slight fall for the market to 'pick up again within a week or two. A very noticeable thing is that a large percentage of the poultry is not in the best of condition, this no doubt being caused through the high cost of food. Apples and lemons are easier. Potatoes, onions, swedes, and kumeras show an advance with a firming tendency. We penned a large number of pigs and competion was keen and good prices were realised. Seed potatoes are now being enquired for. All grain lines are much firmer and are likely to remain firm. We recommend consignments of kumeras and pigs. We quote : — POULTRY Hens, prime, heavy 3s 6d to 4s 4d, good 3s to 3s 3d, small 2s sdto2sßd; ducks, 3s 3d to 5s 6d according to quality and breed, choice line of heavy ducks realised 5s lid; roosters prime up to 6s 7d, good 4s 6d to ss, small 2s 9d to 3s lid ; geese, 5s to 8s 6d ; turkeys, gobblers 8s to 14s 9d, hens 5s to 7s sd.
