THE CEMENT INDUSTRY.
THE AMALGAMATION
THE proposal to form an amalgamation of the New Zealand Portland Cement Company, "Wilsons Portland Cement Company, and the owners of the assets of the Dominion Portland Cement Company, has met with the approval of the representatives of the Dominion Company and of the directors and shareholders of Wilsons Company. It is understood the new company will be formed in the course of a few days, and will be known as the Wilsons (N.Z.) Portland Cement Company. The plants and assets of the three companies will be taken ovei, and it will then be decided by the directors of the new company which of the works is to remain in operation. One or both of the other plants will close down until such time as the demand for cement in in New Zealand justifies the running of them all. The. shareholders in the New Zealand Portland Cement Company held a, meeting in Auckland last week, and it was decided to agree to the amalgamation. A new directorate will probably be formed of the three combined companies, and it will then be decided what is to be done in the matter before mentioned.
