OBITUARY.

THE LATE MRS SEYMOUR.

WE regret having to record the death of one of our oldest and most highly esteemed residents of this district, in the person of the late Mrs Mary Seymour, of Woodhill, who died on the 29th April at her residence, Rewiti, after a painful illness.

Mrs Seymour left Boulander^L Cape Breton Island, Neva Scbti^ on May 17th, 1852, with her , parents (the late Donald and Margaret McDonald of Waipu), in the " Higland Lass" for Adelaide, remaining there eleven months. The family, with the early Waipu settlers, came to New Zealand in the " Gazette " in 1853, later on going with the first settlers to Waipu in 1854.

In 1865 Mrs Seymour was married to the late Mr J, J. Hoe, and settled with her husband in this district.

Mr Hoe died in 1882, leaving four children —Mr Richard Hoe, Mrs Gregory, Mrs Monk, and Mrs Vellonweth, all of Woodhill.

Some years later Mrs Seymour was married to MrC. H. Seymour, and during the whole of her long residence in this district she lived an active, strenuous life, and was noted for her kindly self-sacrifice and strong religious convictions, being a generous supporter of every Christian work.
