VALEDICTORY.

MR AND MRS STRINGER,

A FAREWELL social was held in the Lyric Theatre, Helensville, on Monday evening last, 22nd inst, the occasion being a send" off to Mr and Mrs Stringer, who are leaving this district, after a residence of eight years, for Rawene, Hokianga, at which place Mr Stringer takes up the position of County Clerk. He was selected for the position out of about 214 applicants, which speaks well for that gentleman.

The evening, which was a very enjoyable one, was spent in dancing, interspersed with musical items and singing. Songs were rendered by Miss M. Rimmer, and Messrs J. Carter and A. Hammond, whilst some excellent violin solos were contributed by the Rev. A. V, Venables and Mr J. Carter, Mrs J. Carter playing the accompaniments.

During the evening Mr J. F. Lambert (Chairman of the Town Board), in a neat little speech, presented the guests of the evening with a set of silver fish knives and forks in a suitable case, on behalf of the citizens of Helensville. During their residence in Helensville Mr and Mrs Stringer had been enthusiastic members of the various, clubs and societies and were also prominent Church workers, and they would necessarily be greatly missed. The speaker also referred to Mr Stringer's valuable services rendered whilst Clerk to the Helensville Town Board, and said that the Hokianga County Council had made no mistake in their selection of a new clerk. Mr and Mrs Stringer would carry with them the very best wishes of the residents of the district.

Mr Stringer feelingly responded on behalf of his wife and himself, referring to the most enjoyable times they had spent in Helensville, and thanking one and all for their kindness and generous gift.

An excellent repast was provided in the spacious supperrooms up-stairs, and after all were refreshed dancing was again resumed and continued till midnight. Miss Rimmer ably officiated at the piano, while Messrs C. Sandin and J. Lambert undertook the duties of Ms.C.
