MARKET REPORT.
MESSRS J. J. Jones, Auctioneers, City Market, Auckland, report as follows : —
Our opening sale was held this week in our new buildings and was a huge success. We penned about 3000 head of poultry, and on the whole satisfactory rates were obtained. White Leghorn hens in the moult were not in much demand. Small cockrells are still low in value. Potatoes are much firmer and high prices were obtained. Fruit of all description met with ready sale. Pigs are not in good demand, and values are low. Kumeras and butter, and eggs are in good demand. We quote : — POULTRY Hens, prime 2s 3d to 2s 7d, good Is lOd to 2s 3d, small and inferior Is 5d to Is8d; ducks, 2s to 3s 7d ; geese, 5s ; turkeys, gobblers 8s 6d to 14s, hens 4s to 6s 9d; roosters, prime 4s to 5s 9d, good 3s 6d to 3s Bd, small 2s 6d to 2s lid, cockrells Is to Is 9d. DAIRY PRODUCE Butter, Is 2d ; eggs, Is lid to 2s 3d ; cheese, Is ; hams, Is 2d ; sides, Is Id to Is 2d. FARM PRODUCE Potatoes, Southern £9 to £10, local £6 to £8; onions, £8 to £9 10s; swedes, £2 10s to £3 5s ; pumpkins, £3 10s to £5 ; kumeras £7 to £9. FRUIT Apples, dessert 5s to 7s, cookers 4s 6d to 6s ; pears, 5s to 9s 3d; peaches, 4s 9d to 6s ; lemons, 8s to Is 6d ; passions, 2s to 4s. GRAIN Maize, 8s 4d; wheat, 7s 9d ; barley, 6s 9d to 7s 6d ; oafs, 5s 8d; Algerian oats, 5s 6d to 6s 10d ; chaff, Southern £11 to £12.
