DROWNING ACCIDENT.
A VERY distressing incident occured on Tuesday morning last, when a youth named Edward Scott fell off a fishing launch and was drowned in the Kaipara River. The boat was just leaving the Helensviile fishermen's wharf, and young Scott had cast off, while Mr George Bennett, junr., went below to start the engine. Deceased was last seen on the fore part of the vessel, and and it is surmised bhat he must,. have lost his balance in trying to •■ get to the afterpart, A life buoy ': was thrown overboard, and every : possible means taken to save the > unfortunate lad, but without avail. The sad news was reported to Constable Hunt, who ! with a party spent about six ' hours dragging for the body, which was found about 100 yards from the scene of the accident. An inquest was held yesterday (Wednesday) morning, before Mr R. W. Fosbroke (acting Coroner), and a jury of seven, when a verdict of accidental drowning, no blame attachable to anyone, was returned. Deceased, whose parents are , old resident of Helensviile, was interred in the local cemetery on Wednesday afternoon.
