HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 10TH.

PRESENT

Comrs. J. F. Lambert (chairman), H. Graham, F. W. Strange, Jas. Stewart, ' H. Aitkenhead, H. Thompson, and the clerk (Mr W. F. Raisher). MINUTES Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Outward correspondence was confirmed. LEAVE GRANTED Cr. Stewart proposed and Cr. Thompson seconded—That Cr. Becroft be granted three months' leave of absence.—Carried. AWAROA ROAD On the motion of Cr. Stewart, seconded by Cr. Graham, it was resolved —That work oh Awaroa. Road, for which no tenders were received, be done by day work, and that Mr Nicholl be asked if he would hire his grader. PURCHASE OF DEBENTURES Cr. Stewart proposed and Cr. | Aitkenhead seconded —That the Clerk enquire of the Public Trustee on what terms he will purchase debentures now held by the Union Bank ot Australia. — Carried. MORE WAGES An application was received from Mr Hafford for an increase of wages. On the motion of Cr Graham, seconded by Cr. Aitkenhead, it was decided to grant an increase of 1/ per day' EXTENSION OF SEWER A letter was received fro m Mesdames Thomson and Donovan applying for an extension of the sewer along Second Avenue. It was resolved on the motion of Cr. Aitkenhead, seconded by Cr. Stewart—That Mr Fifield be instructed to report in time for next meeting. SALE OF FISH A letter was received from Mrs Diraka, applying for permission to have a stand for sale of fish outside the railway gates, and for a license to hawk fish. Cr. Aitkenhead proposed and the Chairman seconded —That permission to have a stand outside the railway, gates cannot be granted ; but that fish may be hawked without a license.- — Carried.

DOG TAX On the motion of Cr. Strange, seconded by Cr. Aitkenhead, it was resolved —That the Chairman's action in re-appoin ting the Dog Tax Collector (Mr Sproston) on same lines as last year, be approved. AWAROA CREEK A letter was received from Mr Field, re Dr. Meinhold cutting up and selling portion of his property, and enquiring if the Board will re-open Awaroa Creek as sufficient access. Cr. Stewart proposed and Cr. Aitkenhead seconded —That the Board agree to the subject matter of the letter provided. Mr Field can assure the Board that no liability would be incurred by the Board now or hereafter. —Carried. LEND ING MEN An application was received from the Helensville A. and P. Association for the loan of the Board's two men for one day to clean up the Show ground. On the motion of Cr. Aitkenhead, seconded by Cr. Strange, it was decided to grant the request. REPAIRS WANTED

Mr L. L. Bailey wrote re the slippery state of the footpath near his shop. —The Chairman undertook to see that the surfacemen attend to the matter.

LOAN WANTED Cr. Stewart proposed and Cr. Aitkenhead seconded—That the Clerk wire to Sir Joseph Ward, asking him to facilitate the granting of the £1400 loan — Carried. REPAIRS Cr. Aitkenhead proposed and Cr. Graham seconded—That the surfacemen be instructed to leyel places where the drainage has been damaged.—Carried. CONCRETE BLOCKS It was resolved on the motion of Cr. Stewart, seconded by Cr. Aitkenhead —That as soon as repairs to footpath and drainage in Commercial Road are completed, the men proceed with making blocks, and putting in channelling from bridge to Post Office.

VEHICLE LICENSES The Chairman proposed and Cr. Aitkenhead seconded —That the following be amounts of licenses for vehicles : —Motor 'bus, plying for hire, £8 per annum; motor car, plying, for

hire, £3 ; private car, £1; motor bicycles, 10s. —Carried, BOARDING HOUSE LICENSES The Chairman proposed and Cr. Stewart seconded —That the Clerk collect license fees from boarding houses in the town district. —Carried. This was all the business.
