, " Jim Grimsby's Boy "—Jim Grimaby was the kind of man who •' hadn 't got a friend on earth, but no one was game to be his enemy." His principal ingredient was hatred of women, and " his only reason for keeping a darred female was to, have a son." This is a-"wonderful conception, and the play is full of originality from first to last. He is a wonderful character this gruff prospector and Frank Keenan rises to great height in his depiction of the part. Enid Markey, who plays opposite him, is quaintly pretty and full of charm. The photography is excellent, and every reel is full of unique features. —Saturday— The DEVONS—The public of Helensville will have the opportunity of seeing at the Lyric Theatre to-night a grand combination of Vaudeville and Star Pictures. The management have secured for to-night and Monday night the greatest of all Vaudeville artists, " The' Devons," direct from Fuller's, who come here with a widespread reputation. The feature tricks of their entertainment are the great straight jacket and milk can escape. The Christchurch paper says : — " Franklin Devon begins where others left off. He is the greatest entertainer that has ever visited this city." Franklin Devon will thrown out a £50 challenge to-night. The role was a favourite with Nellie Stewart, who starred Zaza wxth immense success, and the intense dramatic situations with which the play abounds have enhanced the reputation of many other stage celebrities, Pauline Frederick is peculiarly fitted by temperament and appearance for the difficult 'irole of Zaza, the passionate and tempestuous favourite of the gayest music 'halls of Paris, Zaza, so the story goes, has brought the youth and fashion of Paris to her feet, but she is proof against the wiles of Cupid for a long time, Then she meets Bernhard Dufrane, and his passionate wooing finds a response. Her love is aflame. Then she discovers that her lover is married. She becomes a tigeress in her lust for revenge, her hatred of her deceiver is i ntense, and she turns furiously for some fitting object for revenge. His wife and child ! But here comes the great climax which is the secret of Zaza's popularity. In the most dramatic moment of the play and in a magnificent denouement, she presents a memorable picture of the woman who can loye, lose, and forgive.
