WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL

ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN

At yesterday's meeting, on the motion of Or Oliphant, seconded by Cr Harrison, Cr H. Aitkenhead, representative of the Mairetahi Riding and a new member, was elected Chairman.

The clerk, Mr C. A. Oawkwell wrote requesting that in view of statements made during the election campaigning, the Council ask the Minister for Internal Affairs to order a magisterial enquiry into the administration of the Ooivnty de-

partments and the accounts of the Mairetahi Riding during the past 15 years. It was resolved to hold an enquiry, its scope and nature to be determined by the Council as a committee. Cr. P. Dye was the only dissentient, his contention being that in view of the Government audit "an inquiry was unnecessary.
