HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER IITH

PRESENT

Comrs. J. F. Lambert (chairman), H. Thompson, H. Graham, H. Aitkenhead, F. W. Strange, and the clerk (Mr W. F.Raisher). An apology was received from Com. Becroft for non-attendance on account of ill-health.

The Chairman welcomed Mr Strange, and congratulated him on his election as commissioner.

MINUTES Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Outward correspondence was confirmed. j^^N.A. DEVELOPMENT BOARD mS* s> CONFERENCE I; A letter was received from the porth Auckland Development ►Board.' On the motion ot Cr. seconded by the Chairman, it was decided to defer the matter to see if it was possible for any of. the Commissioners to attend the Conference. The Clerk to advise Colonel Allen Bell. THE LIGHTING SCHEME Proposed by Cr. Graham and seconded by the Chairman—That the Clerk write to the Clerk of Dargaville Borough Council thanking him for the information re gas lighting. PROPOSED HYDRANTS A letter was received from the Kaipara Steamship Company, asking the Board to connect mains with proposed hydrants. Proposed by Cr. Aitkenhead and seconded by Cr. Thompson—That the matter be left in the hands of the Chairman. —Carried.

WATER SUPPLY Opinion from Mr E. T. Field, solicitor, explaining the Board's position with Mr John Hand. Proposed by Cr. Aitkenhead, seconded by the Chairman —That Mr Hand be granted not more than 300 gallons of water per day, provided he gives the Board right of way over any of his property to the dam. The water supply to be stopped if drought occurs. Mr Hand to pay cost of meter, material, and all labour, and for all water used over 300 gallons per day at outside rates. Mr Field to be asked to prepare an agreement on these terms. — Carried. THE KAIPARA BRIDGE A letter was received from Mr Ziman, re Kaipara Bridge. The Chairman proposed and Cr. Aitkenhead seconded —That the matter be deferred to come before a full meeting of the Board.—Carried. DRAINAGE CONNECTIONS The Chairman drew attention io the difficulty and extra expense Mr Carleton would incur by connecting his property in First Avenue with drainage, and preferred a request from Mr Carleton that he would be obliged if the Board meet him by sharing expense. After a good deal of ] discussion, Cr. Aitkenhead proposed, Cr. Strange seconding—• That the Board, while sympathising with Mr Carleton, regret that they cannot legally assist in the matter. —Carried, Cr. Thompson dissenting. The Chairman also brought up the matter in connection with Pipitawai Road, and also connecting the Cemetery, and proposed water trough near Buckland's saleyards.—Matters were left in his hands to arrange.

ROAD REPAIRS Proposed by Cr. Aitkenhead, seconded by Cr, Strange—That the surfaceman be put on to repair bad parts of Ratawhiri Road —Carried. The Clerk was instructed to endeavour to get a supply of scoria forwarded for same. LEAVE OF ABSENCE W^iJ^Clerk requested permission Eto closes Board Office on Thursvday, lsth inst., for the purpose of seeing his son off to camp.— Granted. ACCOUNTS Accounts amounting to £41 12s s ßd were passed for payment.
