MEMORIAL SERVICE.
LATE CORPORAL H. ELVIN
A divine service in memory of the lato Corpl. Harry Elvin was held in the Sch«ol-house, Makarau, on Sunday last, and was largely attended by the many friends of the deceased soldier. The Rev. H. T. Edmondson officiated, and in his remarks referred to noble character of the late soldier.
The late Corporal H. T. Elvin, only son of Mr and Mrs F. J. Elvin, of Makarau, sailed with the 11th Reinforcements, and saw much hard fighting in France. He took part in numerous trench raids, went through the Somme untouched, and his many friends -were hoping that such good fortune would be with him to the end. But it was not to be. Of a most happy and intelligent disposition he gained he affection and esteem of all, and in his death the North ha 3 lost another of its best young men. Portions of some of Corpl. Elyin's letters hare appeared in the ECHO, and were read with deep interest, from them it was evident that he " pack«d his troubles in his old kit bag," and kept on smiling.
