THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE," HELENSVILLE, THURSDAY, July 26, 1917 SWIMMING BATH.
THE proposal mooted some time ago to construct a swimming bath in the Helensville Public School grounds has now reached another stage. At the last meetins of the Committee Messrs A. Becroft and L. L. Bailey reported that, after investigation and preparing plans, they estimated the cost of a bath 15ft by 50ft at £150. It was decided to go on with the proposal, and issue subscription lists in the hope of obtaining sufficient money to complete this most important work for the welfare of the children. This, of course, is not a time for carrying out and raising money for new works, but when there is so much at stake in the matter of protecting the lives of the rising generation, the public of Helensville should respond liberally, and assist in every manner to have this bath erected with as little delay as possible. The importance of teaching children to swim is daily brought home to us, and only recently we had to chronicle the drowning of two children in Auckland. It was proved beyond doubt, at the inquest, that had the child who attempted to rescue the other been able to swim two valuable lives would have been saved.
