WAIMAUKU
[BY A CORRESPONDENT!
THE Waimauku branch of the Patriotic League were too modest to send you their balance-sheet, and yet considering that there are only nine or ten working members, it is greatly to their credit to be able to admit they made and sent away 122 pairs of socks in the year, also 24 pairs mittens, 300hussiffs, 20 scarves, 28 belts, 30 bala caps, over 100 face cloths, besides 50 singlets, and several large parcels for soldiers' dependants, and nearly 200 magazines and books for the troopships.
If every lady worked as hard to help patriotic matters as the Waimauku Ladies' Branch has there would be no shortage of comforts for our soldier boys.
Apart from these comforts they helped with cash towards the Dominion Gift Scheme, Christmas boxes for the Front, Children's Memorial Hospital and V.M.C.A Fund.
There is no denying " where there is a will there is a way," and it all helps to keep the flag of freedom flying. The ladies have worked most loyally, and I was sorry they did net send you their list to publish, but this is a rough outline, I cannot remember smaller details.
