Having heather growing rapidly in a 17-acre paddock of grass, Mr R. Lavery advertised in the Times (Warkworth) for boys to attend at a shilling an hour last Saturday morning. Twenty-six rolled up, and cleared the 17 acres in less than an hour. It is likely that the example will be followed.

There is likely to be some trouble over one of the petitions concerning 6 o'clock closing in Timaru (says the Herald), A lady took the petition to a certain establishment with the idea of getting it signed. To her surprise, however, the petition was taken from her and not returned. On asking for its return (after she had been kept waiting for some time) the lady was told that she had seen the last of the petition, as it had been burnt.
