EUCHRE AND DANCE
The euchre and dance socials, promoted by the Church of England Ladies' Guild, and held monthly, have become deservedly popular. That held on Monday evening last in the Star Theatre was no exception, it being a great success both socially and financially. Over sixty sat down to the card tables, and some fourteen games were played, all being keenly contested and enjoyed. Mra J. Morris was the highest scorer among the ladies, while Mr E. T. Field carried off the gentlemen's prize, both having 13 games to their credit. Great amusement was caused over the awarding of the much-sought-after consolation prizes, Mrs Robinson winning the ladies' prize, while that for the gentlemen was also won by a lady (Mrs W. Martin), who had been "playing gent," A dainty supper, provided by the ladies of the Guild, was'partaken of, after which dancing was indulged in, terminating a most enjoyable evening. Miss M. Rimmer presided at the piano, and her playing left nothing to be desired.
