FAREWELL SOLDIERS.
27TH REINFORCEMENTS.
HELENSVILLE is still sending " boys" away to the front, and the last batch to visit the\r homes on final leave were Privates McAdam, J. Martin, E. Edwards, > L. Goad, and J. Monk. To mark the occasion a social was tender- , ed to the above in the Stafr Theatre on Friday evening last, when there a was a, good attendance of both young and old. Among those present were several returned soldiers in uniform, who have done their " little bit " for their country. The floor was in splendid orjHJt/ for dancing, and the music/H^p/ supplied by Miss M. CullenstoV the satisfaction of all. Extras were played by the Misses Vercoe, Russell, and Crump. The duties of Ms.C, were in the capable hands of Messrs R. and J. Constable. A nice musical ;*. programme was arranged, the contributors being Mrs Baker, the Misses M. White and M. Williams, and Messrs M. McGarvey, and P. McLeod (recitation). Mr E. T. Field, in a well- f chosen speech, presented each of * the boys with a shaving outfit, and also a pair of socks from the Women's Patriotic League. The catering was in the hands' the committee, while the ladies willingly assisted, and a dainty supper was partaken of.
As these little functions are purely patriotic, it has been mentioned by a few members of the working committe that the public should come forward, and make it a point of assisting more than they have done. There is too much left for just a few to arrange, and as the departing soldiers are helping to keep the ' enemy from our doors, these little gatherings should be more popular and general. ■
