[own correspondent!
In addition to knitted goods and other Red Cross supplies which they have regularly supplied, the ladies of this district recently organised a thorough canvass of residents, and received liberal donations and promises. A sub-committee arranged a grand concert which was held on May 3rd, and was a huge success. The programme was as follows : pianoforte duet, Misses Sinclair and Henley ; solo, Mrs Goodwin ; "Gathering Flowers," School girls ; solo, Miss Fewell; violin solo, Mr Carter; solo, Mrs Bellini; solo (Scotch), Mr Milligan; recitation, Mrs Pascoe; solo, Mr Carter; quartettee, Mesdames Goodwin and Dye, Miss Waddell and Mr Stevens. After the interval the Kaukapakapa Dramatic Club gave a delightful little farce.
Stalls for the sale of sweets, flowers, mystery boxes, badges, etc., did a brisk trade, and competitions in weight-guessing and putting names to dolls brought in a good revenue.
The Chairman (Mr Dye) was able to announce that the total proceeds amounted to roughly £135.
He asked for a vote of thanks for all who had so willingly and generously responded. This was carried by acclamation, as was also a vote of thanks to the Chairman, proposed by Mis Goodwin, convenor of the concert committee.
The evening's entertainment concluded with a short dance.
