Auckland district's quota of >the Twenty-ninth Reinforcements leave for camp to-day (Thursday). Two five-roomed houses to let. For particulars see advertisments in another column. A euchre party and dance, promoted by the Church of England Ladies' Guild, will be held in the Star Theatre on Monday evening next. It is hoped that the Military Memorial Service to be held next Sunday afternoon will be well attended. The Rev. J. H Edmondson will be the preacher. j In nil probability married men will be balloted for in October next, but will not be required to enter camp before December or January.
The Parakai branch of the A/W .P.L. has forwarded its share (£9O 4s sd) of the Easter Carnival money to be divided equally between the Wounded Soldiers' Fund and the Red Cross Fund.
In a statement regarding the new regulations as to non-military work for religious objectors, the Minister for Defence has stated that it has been decided that objectors should be employed on State farms.
The oyster season opened qn .Tuesday last. The supply will be obtained in the first instance from the beds of the Hauraki Gulf, Waiheke, Ponui, and the Bay of Islands. Later in the season .the Kaipara beds will be drawn upon.
The ladies of the Helensville branch of the Women's Patriotic League have collected and forwarded during the last week, the sum of £101 7s 8d for the V.M.C.A Trench Comforts Fund. As fnrther contributions are still coming to hand the complete list will be published next "week.
The garden fete held last Saturday afternoon, to raise funds for St.Matthew's Chiiroli, Helensville, was a great success. Owing to the b,ad state of the weather it was held in the Star Theatre, and not in the Vicarage grounds as intended. Nevertheless, a most enjoyable afternoon was spent, and the fund will benefit considerably..
Mr Lloyd George announces a further restriction of imports to meet the submarine menace, yigqrous ship-building, and the cultivation of a much larg-er area in Britain for the. 193,8 harVest. Compulsory rationing is regarded as being merely a matter of weeks.
