SHOOTING SEASON, 1917.

THE shooting season will be upon us from next Tuesday, May Ist., and extends to July 31st, for imported game, and the same for Native game.

The imported game open to be killed consists of cock pheasants, and Californian land 4-ustralian quail. Licenses to kill such game (price £1) can be pbtained at the local Post Qffi.ee, and from the Auckland Affiliated Clubs and agents.

The native game open to be killed consists of grey duck, spoonbill duck, teal, pukeko, and black swan. No license is required for shooting native game. The number of such game that may be killed by any one person in any one day is restricted to not more than 25 head in all, and of cock pheasants 12 per day. following areas, which are absolutely closed: —

1. All that area within the County of Waitemata bounded on the north by Wairau Creek from its mouth to the main road from Devonport to Waiwera ; on the west by the said road to its junction with the Sea "View road, and on the east by the sea to the point of departure.

2. All those areas at Waitakerei, Nihotapu and Huia, in the County of Waitemata, vested in and under the control of the Auckland City Council.

Neither native game nor imported game shall be sold for gain or reward.

No swivel gun or punt gun or any gun except a shoulder gun shall be used; and the bore of such gun shall not exceed No. 10, nor its weight lOlbs.

Every person in pursuit of game shall produce his license to any authorised person demanding it. The term " authorised person " includes all justices and constables, all rangers appointed under the Animals' Protection Act, proprietor or occupier of the land on which any person may be found in pursuit of game, and all holders of licenses.

Rangers appointed under the provisions of the Animals' Protection Act shall have the powers of a constable, and can seize all game illegally taken, and also all guns and other instruments illegally used, and may stop in transit any parcels or packages believed to be game, and may search the same. *

Any person who obstructs a ranger in the performance of his duties, or gives a false name or address is liable to a penalty of not less than £1 or more than £20. A bonus of £3 will be paid to anyone securing a breach of the regulations (excepting those relating to native pigeons.
