RE-ORGANISING MEMORIAL SERVICES.

ON Friday evening last about fifteen gentlemen were present at the Defence Office, Helensville, to discuss the above, and place matters on a better footing. Mr Jas. Lambert, senr., was voted to the = chair, and briefly explained the objects of the meeting. Major Tin-ley said that what was wanted was to select a good working committee and compile a schedule, so that in the absence of any of the military staff, the services could be carried on as usual. It was proposed by Mr Spinier seconded by the Chairman —That the monthly memorial services be continued as usual. —Carried. Proposed by the Chairman, >i seconded by Mr Spinley—That all those present form themselves into a committee.

Major Turley suggested that it was not advisable to have too many persons on a committee, and he proposed as an amend" ment, seconded' by Mr Constable —That one delegate from each religious and local body form a working committee. —Carried. Mr Nuttall was elected to undertake the duties of secretary. Proposed by Mr Spinley, seconded by Mr Constable —That a Church Parade be held in Mr Elliott's paddock, Awaroa Road, on Easter Sunday at 11 a.m. Also that in future a Church Parade be held on the first Sunday in every month, at 2.30 p.m,—Carried. Proposed by Mr Nuttall, seconded by Mr Knox —That in future the parades fall in at the Drills Hall, march to place of service, and return to the Drill Hall to be dismissed. —Carried. Major Turley wanted to know what was to be done with the collections. At the same time it was worth while noting that these collections had dwindled down from £11 10s 4d to £3. Proposed by the Chairman, seconded by Mr Constable—That the funds go towards the benefit of New Zealand men only. Mr Aitkenhead proposed; as an amendment, and Mr Knox seconded —That the collections be handed over to the HelensvilleParakai Women's Patriotic League.—Carried. Proposed by Mr Nuttall, seconded by Mr Aitkenhead— That Ministers from Auckland be allowed their train fare, which would only be 4/1 for a week-end ticket. —Carried. Ml- Spinley suggested that the Secretary would need a little stationery and writing material in carrying out his work. Proposed by the Chairman^ seconded by Mr Spinley—That a collection of sixpence per month per man be made, to defray the Secretary's expenses.—Carried. Proposed by Mr Spinley, 'seconded by the Chairman—That the matter of having 300 hymn books printed be deferred to next meet'.ng.

In future the meetings will be held on the first Monday in every month.
