"TANKS" TO THE RESCUE.

HELPED NEW ZEAL ANDERS TO TAKE A HUNDRED PRISONERS. How three " tanks came to the rescue of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade in their advance .on Flers recently is described by Mr Malcolm Ross, the war correspondent, in an article issued by Sir Thomas Mackenzie, the High Commissioner in London :— The Flers line consisted of a fire and a support trench, both heavily protected by barbed wire. On the right some of the wire remained unbrokeu, and the German machine-gunners got to work and held up our men. At this juncture, most opportunely, three of the "tanks" arrived, One, peppered by rifle and machine-gun fire, sidled off to the left, another crunched through the wire and soon silenced the machine-guns protecting Flers trench. Some riflemen were then able to get into the trench ■where a hundred prisoners were quickly gathered in.
