A CAS KOWISKY QUERY.
TO THE EDITOR
SIR> —Could you or any of your readers tell me the result of the following experiment ? . A good many years ago a Russian nobleman conceived the idea of improving the human race by mating the best and most perfect specimens of the young people in his own country. In order to do this he set aside a part of his vast estates to make homes for the young couples who might be fortunate enough to be chosen for the purpose. The conditions were somewhat on the same lines as those imposed upon the Rhodes' scholars. A beautiful home was prepared and presented to each couple, together with a well-stocked farm, and the only condition attached to these gifts was that they should each do sufficient labour and exercise to keep themselves in perfect health. Their children were to be brought up and trained under the supervision of competent attendants. I remember an account of the wedding of the first of these ugenic children, and the young couple were described as being the most perfect and lovely specimens of the human family that had ever stood at God's altar since the first couple in the Garden of Eden.—l am. etc., CAS KOWISKY.
