THE VALUE OF SALT. Opinions differ as to the value of salting the haystack, but when cows are feeding on roots or green forage they certainly prefer salted to unsalted hay, and in this case they are no doubt the best judges. The addition of from 251b to 301b of salt to each ton of hay in the stack not only makes the hay more palatable to the cows, but is an additional safeguard against digestive disturbances when hay is used in conjunction with roots or green fodder. Rock salt should, of course, be in every pasture.
