THE EASTER CARNIVAL

A PUBLIC meeting was held in Stewart's'Hair on Thursday, 15th February, to consider the running of a carnival and sports gathering on Easter Monday next, in conjunction:' with the; Auckland Highland Ujnit.> The proceeds to be in aid of the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. There was a good attendance of the public. Mr Lambert, Chairman of the Town Board, occupied the chair. Messrs Grigsby and Perkins, of the Auckland Highland Unit, were also in attendance, and explained that as the Unit would be in camp in ville at that time, they would" be pleased to render their services to make a Carnival a success. After discussion, it was reresolved, on the motion of Mr Jas. Stewart, seconded by Mr Lambert—•That all present -form themselves into a committee to work the Carnival up, with power to add to their number. The following resolutions were carried : — Proposed,.,..b^Mr W. Allen, seconded by lllfr .Aitkenhead — That Mr Garr;v. be appointed Secretary, to a6t in conjunction with Mr Stringer..- :. Proposed* by~ Mr Lambert and seconded by Mr Constable —That the ladies present be a Refreshment Committee, with' power to add to their number. Proposed by Mr Lambert and seconded by Mr Aitkenhead — That a Carnival and Sports Gathering be held on Easter Mondayj 9th Api*il. Proposed by Mr Garry and seconded by Mr, Lambert —That Messrs Aitkenhead, Stringer, and Allen be a committee to arrange with one of the Picture Theatre proprietors re holding a concert on Saturday evening, April 7. Proposed by Mr Stringer and seconded by Mr Aitkenhead — That the arrangements .for the concert be left with the Highland Unit, Mr Lambert proposed and Mr "Constable seconded —That Messrs Elliott, Stringer, Sandin, Jas. McLeocl, and Aitkenhead be a Canvassing Committee to procure trophies for sports. On the motion jpf Mr Lambert, seconded by Mr Aitkenhead, it was decided to ask the Parakai Branch of the Patriotic League to join with the Helensville League in working up the Carnival and Sports, and that all surplus funds be equally divided between the - Helensville and Parakai Branqhes,: Proposed by Mr Stringer and seconded by Mr Allen—-That the sub-committees report to a general committee meeting to be held in Messrs Stewart Bros.' sample room on Thursday, Ist March, at Bp.m. v On the motion of Mr Stringer a hearty vote of thanks was accorded, by acclamation, to Messrs Grigs by and Perkins, cf Auckland, for their attendance * and help. The following : trophies were promised at the meeting : Messrs Aitkenhead £,% Is, Elliott £1 Is, J. F. I^arnhert, senr., &X Is, and Garry 10s 6d,
