"' Mr Lyndon at Liberty " —showing at the Star Theatre on Saturday—is a story of England at the outbreak of war. Also " The Broken Coin" (tenth episode) teeming with exciting adventures.
A man who was accused by the Wellington Acclimatisation Association of poaching for trout, is reported to have said that he disliked the idea of being prosecuted^ because he was a Sunday School teacher. One of the members of the Society said he agreed with the man that Sunday School teaching and poaching did not go well together. He thought the man ought to decide which of the two he was going in for.
Miss Rita Jolivet, who is becoming one of the most popular film stars, had the unenviable experience of being on a boat torpedoed by German " kulturists," shp being one of the late Charles Frohman's party on board the ill-fated Lucitania. It was to Miss Jolivet that Mr Frohman addressed his last words—"Why be afraid of death? It is the most enjoyable adventure of life," It is a curious coincidence that the photo-play in which Helensville picture-lovers will make her acquaintance is " The Unafraid," which is to be shown at the Star Theatre next Wednesday.
Captain Gordon Coates, M. P. for Kaipara, has sent a picture post card of Albany to the Mayor of Dargaville (Mr J. A. McLean), and this is what he has to say:—"One of the cleanest places I have ever seen. I know of no place in. New Zealand to compare with it Population of 3000 in borough. Everyone is just kindness itself to all the boys. The Mayor, like yourself, is a go-ahead chap. Kia Ora." The Mayor, quite naturally, appreciates Gordon's pretty Uttle compliment, and we are all pleased at his remembrance.' Most heartily do we all reciprocate : " Kia Qra."—Wairoa I^ell. ; ■ . l
One of the strangest little stories of the war, in which a New Zealander has played the leading part, has just been chronicled in the American Dress." The happening has its setting in the city of Austin in Texas. It seems that a Mr3 M Hemsley, formerly of. New Zealand, who is making her home temporarily in' Texas and residing at Austin, was looking through a magazine the other day, when she came across a picture showing an award for bravery and honour being made to an Anzac hero somewhere in the war zone of the British army. She recognised the hero as being her son whom she had not heard of for nearly 20 years. x
