CHILDREN'S SKATING CARNIVAL.
The Children's ' Fancy Dress Skating Carnival, held in the Star Theatre on Thursday evening last, proved a great success. There was a good attendance, notwithstanding the measles, which are, very prevaleut*>in Helensvilie at present . and were responsible for many absentees. The floor was crowded with merry skaters Jin their bright and varied costumes, and the spectators found it hard indeed to select their favourites. . A ballot was taken, resulting in Miss Lucy Carleton (as Pierette) winning the first prize for girls, with Miss Roi Parkes (Pom Pom) second. Of the boys, little Leslie Vercoe (The Rabbit) gained the highest number of votes, and Allen Bishop).a handsome Maori girl) came a good second. Some of the costumes noted were:—

Allen Bishop, Maoji Wahine Arthur Turley, Infantry"Officer Norman Olsen, Convict Cyril Megson, Boy Scout x . Reg. Murphy, ITigger Coon Hugh Hafford, Jockey O. Cuthbert, Boy Scout Fred Hughes, Jockey Tom Geldard, Maori Boy Claude Becroft, Eskimo The Ladies' Patriotic League added considerably to their funds by the sale of ices, and strawberries and cream, which were m uch appreciated.
