CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS.

CLOSING HOURS OF SHOPS

THE fact that Christmas Day falls on a Monday this year has created some doubt as to the right of shops to remain open late on Saturday night, Sunday being Christmas Eve. Clause 6 of the 19th section of the Shops and Offices Act makes the position quite clear, and in accordance with its provisions the master grocers have decided that the weekly half-holiday in the week preceding Christmas Day shall be observed on Wednesday, December 20. As the Act makes no provision for two late nights in one week, there will be no late night on Friday, December 22. The business Christmas Eve will be observed on Saturday, December 23, when shops may remain open till 11 p.m. Shops will not re-open till Wednesday, December 27. In Christmas week sh» ps will remain open till 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday (New Year Eve), December 3Q, till 11 p.m. Shops will re-Qpei} for business on Wednesday, January 3, remaining open to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, 9 p.m. on on Friday, and 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 6.^
