DARGAVILLE POLICE CASES
Two men on a Sunday trip from &ratapu, to Te Kopuru, buy two bottles of whisky op board, and walk bad? home. One paid his shiN ing fare, the other did not, but both were declared to be passengers, therefore the proseouction failed.
At the Dargaville Magistrate's Court, on Tuesday of last week, the Police proceeded agairjst Capt. Sellars (as part owner of the boat) and Ralph Kealey, steward of the sB. Tuirangi, with reference to alleged "Ipreac^es of the steamer's packet; licence, 'lwo informa^isns were laid in each case (1) That on Sunday, October Ist, between Aratapu and Te Kopuru, being the holder of a packet license, he did unlawfully sell two, bqttles to one !F 003, who, w^s no,t a hpna fyle passenger; and dijd supply liq'uqr tp the engineer o.f tfre vessel without the written order of the master,
Sergt. Griffiths prosecuted, and Mr Q-. Hayes, appearing for the accused, entered a plea of Not Guilty in each case, though admitting the sale of the two bottles of whiskey. The magistrate asked how Qa,p,t. Sellars, the master q| another! steamer, came into'^ie case.' Hia Worship: It strikes me as being rather curious that one should hold two licenses to sell liquor, even if they are but packet licenses. Both cases were dismissed.
