RESIGNATION OF TOWN CLERK.
IT came as rather a surprise at the ordinary monthly meeting of the Helensville Town Board on Thursday evening last, when Mr H. W. Stringer put in his resignation as Town Clerk, owing to pressure of business in another capacity. A committee of two members of the Board were appointed to interview Mr Stringer to see if any grievance (if any) could be adjusted, and otherwise induce him to reconsider his resignation, but, although the committee waited upon Mr Stringer on Friday evening, as arranged, nothing would induce him to alter his decision. This, we feel certain, will be much regretted by the Board as a whole, and the ratepayers in general, who look upon Mr Stringer with the highest respect and esteem, and a gentleman ever courteous aad obliging to one and all. He will be a great loss to the office which he has held with distinction for about six years, and also a loss to the Editor of the ECHO, for his many kindly contributions.
