PARLIAMENTARY JOY-RIDE.

Mr Vernon Reed, one of the promoters of the above, approached the Bay of Islands County Council at its meeting last week, for its share towards the expenses—only £95—but not one Councillor was inclined to make ducks and drakes of the County funds, therefore they turned Mr Reed's proposition down, and quite right too, each Councillor promising to collect subscriptions. A new Councillor (E. Doel), went so far as to say:—" I could not support money being voted from the public funds for the tour. If a man has goods to sell he should pay' for the advertising, and those who are going to benefit by this scheme should pay for it." —(Hear, hear).
