THE METHODIST CIRCUIT.

REV. LAMOND TO GO

The usual quarterly meeting of the Methodist Church was held at Helensville on Monday, 23rd ult., at 7.30 p.m. The Rev. Laws presided, and Efiv. J. A. Lamond, and Messrs Pengelly, Spinley, Goodwin, Lay and Carter were present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and of the special meeting dealing Trith charges of heresy against the Jbtev. J. A. Lamond. A letter was read from the Key Garland, giving the finding and decision of the Executive. The Eev. Lamond was found guilty of holding views and preaching them, which struck at the foundation of a number of Church doctrines, and he would not receive any further appointment from the Methodist Church, but would be permitted to remain in his present position until nexc April, provided,he did not preach anything hurtful to the Church. The Rev. Lamond said he reserved the right to preach according to his conscience, and he had never preached with any intention of attacking Church doctrine, but just what he believed was the truth. The phairman said he would not permit any further discussion, though Messrs Spinley and Carter • spoke for Mr Lamond, and said that he would be a great loss to the Churon. and Circuit, and many would regret to see him go. Mv Carter considered that the Church in this Circuit would suffer considerably over the whole affair, as Mr Lamond was well liked and was sincere.

Other business came up:—Re placing shingles on the Church roof, was left to Mr Spinley to obtain estimates as to cost. Re division of the Helensville Circuit so that it could be worked more efficiently, a committee was appointed to draw up a report on it, to put before the Synod. Re quarterly balance sheet, Mr Pengelly proposed that the amount for furniture fund be paid off. The motion was lost, as there were no funds available, and it was hardly fair to deduct it from the Missionary's stipend. The names of several new members were proposed and added to the roll, The meeting then came to a conclusion.
